A message from your AHRMA Northeast Coordinator
Welcome to Vintage Racing and the AHRMA Northeast Web site. We’re glad you took a few minutes to hit our link and share our passion of vintage competition. For 2007 we have pulled together a full race venue for our region with over 8 races in New York and Pennsylvania! Once again we will combine efforts with our Mid-Atlantic friends in a 3 race North Atlantic series for bragging rights on the “Right Coast!” We will showcase some of the finest racing the AHRMA North East region has to offer.
If you don’t already know, AHRMA The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association is a member-owned nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the sport of historic motorcycle racing for the enjoyment of riders and spectators. AHRMA is a chartered promoter of the American Motorcyclist Association and conducts amateur activities. Our Northeast Region is one of many that carve out the landscape across the country.
With well over 5,000 members, AHRMA is the largest vintage-racing group in North America and one of the biggest in the world. The association has grown steadily over the years, reflecting the increasing interest in classic bikes.
AHRMA traces its roots to organized vintage racing during the late 70’s in the Northeast! Yes, this is where it all started... not in California, but right here in the Northeast! In the early '80s, other groups began emerging around the nation, adding scrambles, observed trials, dirt track and concourse events to the competition options available for vintage riders. AHRMA was originally formed as a privately held business corporation. Other groups were brought together under one banner and one set of rules, and in 1989 AHRMA was reorganized into the member-owned association of today. The association's national headquarters is in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, with its membership office in Brighton, Michigan, and publications office in Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania.
The AHRMA Northeast Region offers a Vintage National and regional Motocross and Cross-Country competition. The vintage machines active in AHRMA events span form the 1960s to the mid-'70s. The North East Motocross Championship schedule includes 8+ rounds. Our AHRMA Northeast regional events take place at some of the finest natural terrain tracks in the North East.
In the past few years the AHRMA Northeast region has begun to add classes for long-travel motocross machines from the late 1970s to early '80s. These Post-Vintage motocross classes have been incorporated in many of AHRMA's regional series and also have their own National circuit. It is the fastest growing segment of off road racing in AHRMA and we are proud to have played an important part in its development.
So get out of that easy chair and get your old iron fired up. You say you don’t have one? No problem! Vintage bikes are easy to come by and easy on your pocket as compared to modern motorcycle MX racing. Just check the National AHRMA site ‘Web Mart’ http://www.ahrma.org/mart/webmart.htm. There is a “gem” waiting there for YOU.
See you at the Races!
